Lebanon, Oregon- After racing on Friday, Willamette Speedway was back to racing on Saturday, July 27th for the Rick Barnes Memorial. Barnes was a longtime safety worker at the famed 1/3-mile clay oval and unfortunately passed away a few years ago. The Super Sports, IMCA Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets were all on the card to honor the late Rick Barnes.

In the Super Sport ranks, Vahn Stone got the job done in the main event. It marked the first occasion that the Scotts Mills chauffeur has bested the field. Jim Donofrio, of Salem, came out of retirement to post a runner-up performance with his son B.J. finishing in third. Randy Boyd, of Lebanon, was fourth with Crawfordsville veteran Tom Yeack, in fifth.

Bricen James backed up his Friday night triumph with another IMCA Modified trophy to the case. The Albany native has now accrued a sum of five visits to victory lane. Dustin Cady, from Albany and again his twin brother Justin’s car, was once more in second while Coquille’s Ryan Baker posted a quality third. Craig Cassell, of Albany, ended the evening in fourth over fifth finishing Todd Newton, from Gladstone.

Randy Boyd, doing double duty, filled in for Kent Emry’s car on Saturday. Success was to be had for Boyd to win his first Sportsman race of the current campaign. Clay Debban, of Shedd and in the Steve Piefer machine, crossed the wire in second with Lebanon’s Glenn Hackney scoring a third-place finish. Tom Yeack was fourth over Corvallis’ Ryan Emry in fifth.

McKenzie Lockart returned to victory lane after a bit of a hiatus in the Street Stocks. The young lady from Albany now is a two-time winner at Willamette this season. Another young lady, Lebanon’s Kyndal Irvine, was second while fellow Lebanon driver Mikey Burnham ended the race third. Charlie Culpepper, from Oregon City, got fourth with Dom Conti, of Albany, rounding up the top five, in fifth.

Last but not least were the Hornets. Ed Farness, of Sandy, was the victor and it is the second occasion he has been able to best the field. His son, Eddie, was the second-place finisher while Corvallis’ Matthew Emry collected the third spot. Del Tucker made the journey south from the Kitsap peninsula town of Silverdale, Washington and ended up fourth. Jimmy Midkiff, of Madras, was the last driver in the top five.

Willamette Speedway’s next event is Saturday, August 3rd. Classes in action are the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, IMCA Sport Mods, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
