Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway hosted their final race of the 2017 season on Saturday, September 23rd. Championship Night would still see some titles that were still up for grabs while some were wrapped up weeks ago. All six staple classes were on the card including the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
Justin Duty, out of Mulino, made his return to Willamette after spending the vast majority of his racing season east of the Rocky Mountains. Duty would come from the back of the field to collect his first win at Willamette this season. Corbett's Collen Winebarger managed to stave off the rest of the competition to win his first career Super Late Model title at the 1/3-mile clay oval but his third overall.
Collen Winebarger would be the one to tame the field in the IMCA Modified ranks. It is his third win in the Mods this season. John Campos, from Keizer, would finish good enough to win his first career IMCA Modified championship.
Dan Deibele closed out the season in hot form. The Lebanon native collected his ninth victory of 2017. It would cap off Deibele's championship season and his first of his career. James Slover, also of Lebanon, came from the back of the Sportsman field to conquer the field for the fifth time. Slover also would claim his first career track championship.
Kevin Roberts got the job done in the Street Stocks. It is the third main event win for the Gresham chauffeur. Portland's Jody Tanner would end the night with the most points for his first ever Willamette title. Last but not least the Hornets would see the Tracy Muse show strike lightning once again. Muse, of Albany, ended the year with ten wins over the course of the campaign. Muse would win his second straight Hornet crown.
Be sure and stay tuned on the track website and Facebook page for official news. Be on the lookout for information regarding the championship banquet and 2018 schedule over the course of the off season.
