Inside Line Promotions – LEBANON, Ore. (Sept. 7, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi is headed home following a successful three-month stint of racing on the road.

Scelzi, who departed California in early June before spending most of the summer competing in the Midwest, has followed the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series west since the Knoxville Nationals last month.

He and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team ventured to the Northwest with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ during the last week.

“I always look forward to racing in the Northwest,” he said. “There are a lot of talented drivers up there and the tracks are fun so it’s usually an enjoyable trip.”

The action began on Friday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where Scelzi qualified 15th quickest, placed fifth in a heat race and ended 17th in the main event.

He returned to the high-banked oval the following night and timed in 25th quickest before finishing seventh in a heat race, fourth in the Last Chance Showdown and 18th in the A Main.

“We had mixed results at Skagit,” he said. “Qualifying put us in a bit of a bind on Saturday. We hurt an engine and didn’t realize it until the heat, but we were able to move forward in the heat race, Last Chance Showdown and main event so we made progress.”

Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., hosted a show on Monday. Scelzi qualified 24th quickest before he advanced from eighth to sixth place in a heat race. That locked him into the main event, in which he powered from 18th to 11th to earn the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“We got stronger as the night went on,” he said. “I had a car that was able to maneuver in the main event and we worked our way up there battling for a top 10 so that was a good finish.”

Scelzi made his lone visit to Oregon on Wednesday during a stop at Willamette Speedway, where he timed in 15th quickest, placed fifth in a heat race and maneuvered from 15th to 13th in the main event.

“We don’t get to race in Oregon or at Willamette Speedway very often so each time is a learning experience,” he said. “We had a mechanical problem that kept us from hot laps and we missed our qualifying spot so that was a challenge right out of the gate. We gained some great notes from whenever we go back there and we moved forward in the main event so it was a good night.”

Scelzi and the team are en route to California to compete this Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the Gold Cup Race of Champions with the World of Outlaws.

“I’m excited to get back to California after all of the experience we gained on the road this summer,” he said. “I think it will help immensely and will show in our results this weekend and beyond.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Scelzi Enterprises

In 1979, brothers Mike, James and Gary Scelzi began manufacturing their line of flatbeds out of their company’s 4,500-square-foot facility in Fresno, Calif. They added truck service bodies and crane bodies to their line in 1990. Today, Scelzi Enterprises is the Valley’s largest manufacturer and supplier of truck bodies and parts. The operation includes 16 acres with more than 200,000 square feet of manufacturing facilities in Fresno alone. Scelzi Enterprises creates custom truck bodies for a wide range of customers, from single vehicles for individuals to entire fleets for some of California’s largest companies and utilities. “Scelzi Enterprises has been around long before my brother and I,” Scelzi said. “My dad and uncles have been involved in racing for years. They owned a sand dragster when my dad was young and started racing, and my uncle owned a very famous hard top years ago with many famous California drivers behind the wheel, including the one and only Al Pombo.”
