New Zealand's Daniel Anderson Excited For Speedweek Northwest Excursion
By Ben Deatherage
One of the great additions to this year's Speedweek Northwest is Daniel Anderson. Hailing from the New Zealand's Southland region, in the city of Te Anau, Anderson is very happy to be back stateside to take on the competition of the Western Sprint Tour. He plans to start at Coos Bay before following the rest of the tour to Cottage Grove.
“It's a bit off a short trip for me because work has been busy,” said Anderson, “we plan to hit Coos Bay on but we may catch the earlier races. I'm really looking forward to going to back to Cottage Grove, I really like that place.”
Daniel had a pretty good 2014-15 season in his home country by winning the Salute To Goodie Sprint Car Classic at Ruapuna Speedway in Templeton, which is in the region of Canterbury and located just outside of the big city of Christchurch, for the second straight year. In fact he is the only driver to have the honor of winning the race on more than one occasion. Anderson will once again pilot The Ranch Bar & Grill/Richmond Engines/Triple X Race Co./Rutz Racing #44NZ XXX entry that will be prepared by Doug Rutz.
“I'm looking forward to having as much as possible but to learn as much as I can and get some good placings,” he would continue, “In New Zealand we just have 410's so it is not very often I drive a 360 but I think they are great. I think it will be a tough haul to make the main event with these guys.”
Also Christchurch based pilot Jamie Duff is driving another Doug Rutz car and is currently ranked the New Zealand #1 will also be touring with Anderson. Duffy, as he is commonly known, raced in California last summer.
The Western Sprint Tour sanctioned Speedweek Northwest begins at Yreka, California's Siskiyou Motor Speedway on Sunday June 28th and will conclude with the $5000.00 to win finale at Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday July 4th. The best 360 Sprint drivers in the Western United States will race six events in seven nights at some of the best tracks in the country.
In the seventeen years Speedweek Northwest there have been ten different champions. Steve Kent and Roger Crockett are tied with four apiece while Brent Kaeding has two. Seven drivers have won the entire kit and caboodle just once which is a very impressive list of winners. That list includes Brad Furr, Jesse Hockett, Bud Kaeding, Kyle Larson, Shane Stewart, Mitch Olson, and in 2014 Kyle Hirst.
The Western Sprint Tour is the Pacific Northwest region's most premier touring 360 Sprint car series. Visiting some of the nation's best facilities it is a series that offers some of the best racing you can find anywhere around.
