After a well deserved day off on Thursday the Wild West Modified Shootout was raring to finish the speedweek off with the first of two nights at Willamette Speedway on Friday June 19th. The historic 1/3-mile clay oval would have some great racing all night long thrilling the crowd in attendance. Forty-three cars signed in for the event representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, and the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Collen Winebarger, from Corbett, would seize the initial race lead come feature time in his Discount Race Car Parts/FinishLine Graphics/Sweere Trucking #S Shaw by Taylor. Winebarger set a pretty good pace in the opening laps until he would spin out in turn four on lap two forfeiting the lead. Inheriting the position would be Lakewood, Colorado's Ryan Gaylord. Gaylord would have firm control of the lead for much of the race with only two more cautions, one on lap seven and another on lap twenty-eight, taking place both of which were due to debris.

On the final restart Gaylord would keep the competition in check in his Oliver Gravity Separators/Gaylord's Garage/Rage Racing Chassis #7R Rage. But with just a few laps to go Alex Stanford, hailing from Chowchilla, California, kept Gaylord in his site. Utilizing the middle of the race track Stanford, chauffeuring the Stanford Chopping/Golden Memorial Insurance/Susan River Reality/Borba Ranch #98 PCD, tossed the dice one last time and began motoring around the outside of Ryan Gaylord.

The two would come out of the corner of the final circuit neck and neck but it would be Stanford with the victory by a mere .017 seconds. It marked the first occasion the Stanford had won in the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout and was his sixth of his career. It was also his fourth consecutive victory at Willamette Speedway during speedweek competition and is a streak that goes back to 2013.

Ryan Gaylord was a respectable second followed by the NexGen Race Cars/Furniture Options/Double R Powdercoating/JDM Racing Solutions #W5 NexGen of Eugene's Jesse Williamson in third. The rest of the top five would be made up of Salem ace Jeremy Shank, in fourth, in his Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center/Bilstein Shocks by Left Coast #30 Swartz while Collen Winebarger rallied to a fifth place finish. Originally starting in eighteenth place Jeremy Shank managed to earn the Klecker Knives Hardcharger award.

The Wild West Modified Shootout will be in action for just one more race on Saturday June 20th at Willamette. Be there as we crown the Klecker Knives Top Gun champion. Pit Gates will open at 1:00 PM, the Pit Meeting will take place at 2:30, Front Gates open at 3:30, and Racing starts at 6:00. Tickets are Adults $14.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a family pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.  Log on to www.trophymotorsports.com for more information.
