Cady Wins Modified Tribute To Clair; Barley And Rash Score Willamette Wins

Willamette Speedway would have action return to the 1/3-mile clay oval for the annual Modified Tribute To Clair on Saturday August 23rd. This race is ran in honor of longtime Willamette Speedway owner/operator the late Clair Arnold. Classes in competition included the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modifieds, Crocker’s Car Super Sports, and Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman.
The Wirth Wireless IMCA Modfiieds would put on one heck of a show as several drivers would battle for the top position. When it was all said and done Dustin Cady of Albany would park his Drager Performance/Frank’s Fab And Auto/GRT Race Cars/Susan River Reality #7 GRT in victory lane. Cady became the first repeat winner of the Modified Tribute To Clair as his first triumph was back in 2011.
The Virgil Hanson Automotive Machine/BSB Manufacturing/KGAL 1580 AM/James Gang Pizza #33C Shaw of Craig Hanson from Albany was second while third would belong to Salem’s Jeremy Shank in his Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center/Bilstein Shocks by Left Coast #30 Swartz. The rest of the top five would consist of Craig Cassell, hailing from Albany in his Ester Lee Motel of Lincoln City/Dr. Mary Harada Breast Cancer Specialist/Debra Herndon Family Nurse Practitioner/Mid-Valley Farms #25 Rocket by Ruhlman, in fourth and the Cascade Metal Recycling/Jon Innskeep Racing Engines #83 Shaw of Tangent’s Trevor Glaser drove to a fifth place finish for car owner Don Romer.
The Crocker’s Car Super Sports would see a new victor emerge. Seizing the lead on lap five and going unchallenged the rest of the distance Albany ace Randy Barley would pick up his first win of 2014. For Barley it would be the first time since 2013 that he’s parked the Dennis Automotive and Tires/Charlie James Racing Graphics/Lebanon Auto Body #13B Rayburn in victory lane.
The James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals/Schram Brothers Excavating #13 MasterSbilt of Albany’s Bricen James was second followed by Sodaville chauffeur Tony Brakeall in the Crocker’s Cars/Left Coast Motorsports #44 Swartz for car owner Brian Thompson. The Archer Floor Covering #39 Swartz of Dennis Archer from Halsey was fourth while in fifth was Bob Jeffrey of Salem in the Gil Pickett Custom Cabinets/G&B Natural Health/Airport Steel/Santiam Barn & Supply #98 Swartz.
Last but not least the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman would witness a dominating performance from the likes of Jeff Rash. The Lebanon native would take care of business in the Hackney Racing/Wirth Wireless #1 Swartz for car owner Glen Hackney to earn the victory. It would be the third time that Rash has visited the winner’s circle.
Willamette Speedway will be incredibly busy this weekend with two nights of action on Saturday August 30th and Sunday the 31st for the annual Labor Day Classic. Classes on both nights include the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models, Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, and Street Stock.
But wait it doesn’t stop there on Tuesday September 2nd the “Greatest Show On Dirt” the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to Willamette.
