Saturday August 2nd Willamette Speedway would host the Sportsman Spectacular. This would be the biggest race of 2014 for the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman and would see their main event go for forty circuits around the historical 1/3-mile clay oval. Other classes in action were the Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Street Stocks, 4-Cylinders, and the W.R.S. Late Model Lites would pay their second visit of the year.

In the Albany & Eastern Sportsman main event Brian Smith of Albany would take care of business. Although the race was plagued with several cautions and even a handful of red flag incidents Smith would reign supreme in the Glen Hackney owned Hackney Racing/Wirth Wireless #2 Swartz to win his third victory of 2014.

Gil Pickett of Salem would emerge victorious in the Crocker’s Cars Super Sport main event. Pickett would have to keep back Sodaville’s Tony Brakeall, subbing for the injured Brian Thompson in the Crocker’s Cars/Left Coast Motorsports #44 Swartz, in the process. It would mark the third time that Pickett and the Gil Pickett Custom Cabinets/G&B Natural Health/Airport Steel/Santiam Barn & Supply #98 Swartz has visited victory lane.

The James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals/O’Connell Machine #13 Monte Carlo driven by Albany teenager Bricen James would emerge victorious for the second time in 2014 in the Street Stocks. But it would be a difficult task to complete as Lebanon’s Justin Evans, in the Al Flora owned Albie’s Medical Transport/Allied Medical Transport/X-Factor Race Cars/Wirth Wireless #99 Cougar, and Kyle Yeack, driving for car owners Roy and Haven Doran in their Doran Racing #47 Monte Carlo, both tried to overtake him. But James would hold on for the triumph.

Bob Westcott of Milwaukie would again visit victory lane as the W.R.S. Late Model Lites made their return. The Royal Purple/Pro-Tek Automotive/Northwest College Of Beauty/T.P.R. Industrial #93 Fab-Tek of Westcott would make it a perfect two for two in 2014 at the 1/3-mile clay oval. Dale Holland was once again the feature winner of the 4-Cylinders. The DCM Trucking #18 entry would conquer the competition for the fourth time in the current campaign.

Willamette Speedway will have two nights of great racing on tap this coming weekend. First on Friday August 8th the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region will pay their final visit to Willamette along with the Crocker’s Cars Super Sports and around ten to eleven selected Kage Karts as support classes. The X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models make their return on Saturday the 9th along with the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modifieds, Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, and Street Stocks.
