Some great racing would take place at Willamette Speedway on Saturday June 21st as the fine folks at Highoctane Die Cast presented the annual Mid-Season Championship Night. Like the week previous all six classes would be in action which included the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models, Wirth Wireless IMCA Modifieds, Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, Street Stocks, and the 4-Cylinders.
Despite a big wreck at the start of the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Model feature Justin Duty of Happy Valley would be one of the contenders for the win in his Don Frank Flooring/Mid Ohio Graphics/Metro Services/Big Sky Landscaping #15 Rocket. Unfortunately for the teenager he would experience some rear end problems resulting in him giving the lead to Bend’s Rob Mayea. Mayea would keep his J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines #37 Rocket mount out in front for the remainder of the distance to win his second main event of 2014.
In Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified action Collen Winebarger of Corbett would take care of business in the first half of the main event. However the Discount Race Car Parts/Gordy Lee Photography/Frisbie Motorsports #SW Shaw by Jeff Taylor would find himself holding off several challengers for the top spot. Jeremy Shank of Salem would find a way around Winebarger to get the lead and earn his second win of the campaign in the Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center/Bilstein Shocks by Left Coast #30 Swartz.
In the Crocker’s Car Super Sports Brian Thompson from Sweet Home found himself leading early in the Crocker’s Cars/Left Coast Motorsports #44 Swartz. But shortly after a restart after a caution Albany’s Bricen James found his way to the front to take over the lead. James would keep the James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals/Schram Brothers Excavating #13 MasterSbilt entry out in front to score his fourth consecutive victory in the division.
Brian Smith would have the field covered in the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman ranks. Smith, driving the Glen Hackney owned Wirth Wireless #2 Swartz, would practically go untouched in the main even to win his second feature of the year.
In the Street Stocks it was a nail biter despite several cautions occurring. Justin Evans of Lebanon in the Al Flora owned Albie’s Medical Transport/Allied Medical Transport/Wirth Wireless/X-Factor Race Cars #99 Cougar stayed out in front for most of it. That was until Kyle Yeack, also from Lebanon, pulled a slider on Evans late in the race to grab the lead and win his second main event of the season for car owners Roy and Haven Doran in the Doran Racing #47 Monte Carlo.
In 4-Cylinder racing Dale Holland keeps his perfect record intact as he managed to win his third straight main event triumph in the DCM Trucking #18 machine.
Willamette Speedway will host a practice on Friday June 27th from 4:00 PM to Dusk while racing returns on Saturday the 28th. Saturday will mark the annual Topless Showdown for the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models while also on the card is the Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, and 4-Cylinders.
