Jefferson, Oregon teenager Jennifer Robbins isn’t like most girls her age. Her summers have been spent on dirt at Willamette Speedway racing since she was fifteen. Robbins will enter her third season in 2014 moving up from the Mini Truck division and into the Sportsman ranks. She is following in the footsteps of her father Mike who also races.

In the two years she has competed fulltime she has finished third place in the final point standings each season. During the 2013 campaign the Jefferson High School student scored ten top fives in eleven feature starts including a second place finish on June 29th. We got a chance to talk to her about her goals, how she got her start, and her experiences in the Mini Trucks. Now let’s get up to speed with Jennifer Robbins.

Driver: Jennifer Robbins

Years Racing: 2

BD: What are some of your plans for 2014?
JR: I’m going to be moving up to the Sportsman this year. I decided to move up because I wanted to go faster. I’m hoping to get to know my car and get used to the track at a faster pace.

BD: Any reason you have chosen the #12?
JR: I’ve always used it in sports and it’s also my lucky number. I was #15 my first year because my dad wanted to have my age as my number that year.

BD: How exactly did you get your start in racing?
JR: My dad started racing in 2012 right before me. I always wanted to race but I didn’t know how to drive a race car. My dad asked if that would be something I wanted to do and I said yeas. So we got a Mini Truck and started racing that summer.

BD: You’ve ran in the Mini Truck (now renamed the 4-Cylinder) class the last few years. How fun is that division?
JR: It’s a lot of fun. It can be a little rough sometimes but it’s a great class to learn in.

BD: What are some goals that you have set up for yourself either for this year or the future?
JR: This year I want to keep my car in one piece. As I get more comfortable I’d like to get more competitive. I’m interested in racing in the Modifieds but I want to get some more experience before I get into one.

Willamette Speedway will host a practice on Friday April 11th lasting from 4:00 PM to dusk. On Saturday the 12th the historic 1/3-mile will host the Cabin Fever Season Open to get the 2014 season started. For the latest news and information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
