Despite being only nine years old Brody Sim is one of the toughest drivers you can face at a race track. The Albany native is a former Oregon BMX State champion and has won eight track championships between Roseburg’s River Arena Speedway, Salem Indoor Speedway, Albany Motorsports Park, and Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. He also is a title winner with the I-5 Kart Tour in 2012 and is a former champion of the Oregon Triple Crown series. In 2013 Sim was sidelined due to illness and during the offseason underwent treatment and looks to be back at the track fulltime.
Looking to run primarily in the 125cc Kage Kart division, and possible later in the 250cc ranks, the third grader at Oak Grove Elementary is determined to get back to his winning ways. With a winning attitude on and off the track it is no wonder why “Little Brody” is quickly gaining popularity in the pit area. Now let’s get up to speed with Brody Sim.

BD: Brody you really haven’t managed to race that much due to being sick but it sounds like you are getting better and we should be seeing you out soon, right?
BS: Yeah, I plan on racing my 125 and practice my 250 this season. I hope to run my 250 by the summer when I get comfortable. But I’ve been feeling better and I’m getting stronger every day.
BD: How did you get started in Kage Karts?
BS: I went to watch my cousin Josh and my friend Eric Scofield at the track. I really liked it and told my dad I would like to race. So my dad got me my first kart.
BD: Is there a reason you race the #04?
BS: The first race I went to was to watch Hershel McGriff. Also my cousin Nate used to race the #J40 so I thought 04 would be kind of cool.
BD: Outside of Karting you have had an incredible BMX career. Correct?
BS: Yes. I won a state championship when I was five and I placed fifth in the U.S. Championships. When I rode BMX I got over fifty main event wins.
BD: Who are some of your racing heroes or people you look up to?
BS: At Lebanon I really like Cody Sell and Brody Pompey. He’s the reason I have my nickname “Little Brody”. Also when I raced at Red Bluff I raced with Kyle Larson so I like him. But Greg Biffle is me and my dad’s favorite driver in NASCAR.
BD: Any chance we might see you in a big car later down the road either in a Late Model, IMCA Modified, or a Sprint Car?
BS: Ever since I started racing I really wanted to race with the World of Outlaws but my mom totally disagrees with that. I’m still working on it. I would really want to do it someday.
