Willamette Speedway had a great night of racing on Saturday June 22nd. Sponsoring the evening’s action was the fine folks at Hot Rod Bettie’s Tattoo who added money to the purse in all five classes that would compete during the course of the event. Those five classes included the DIRTcar Super Late Models, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks.
In the DIRTcar Super Late Model feature fans were thrilled with another spectacular main event. Around the ten lap mark defending champ and current point leader Trevor Glaser from Tangent had issues with his machine that forced him to go to the work area and restart in the back of the field after running towards the front in the opening laps.
Russ Sell of Brownsville paced the field in his 99.9 KRKT Cricket Country/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center #50 Swartz and was in search of his second win of the year. A caution on lap thirty would bunch up the field one last time setting things up for a twenty-lap green flag run.
With the long green flag run it would put lapped traffic into the picture. Eventually with just a few laps to go Russ Sell, Trevor Glaser, and Bend’s Rob Mayea would all be battling for the lead and the win. Trevor Glaser would put his Bayer Crop Science/Farmland Tractor Supply #2 Trak-Star in the lead and would earn the win. For Glaser it would mark his sixth win of the season as he continues his dominance among the DIRTcar Super Late Model ranks.
Russ Sell would end the evening in the runner-up position while finishing in third was the J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines #37 Victory Circle of Rob Mayea. The balance of the top five would consist of the Driving Force Graphics/Tube Shark Tube Benders #46 Rocket of Darren Coffell from Bend in fourth and the Metro Services/Gassner Trucking #29 Rocket of Portland’s Brian Cronk in fifth.
In a caution filled Super Sport feature Randy Barley of Albany would show the field how to get the job done. Barley would receive a couple of brief challenges but he would keep all of them in check on each occasion. Randy Barley would lead the entire distance to earn his first win of 2013 in the Dennis Automotive #13B Rayburn.
Finishing in second place was Bob Jeffrey of Albany in the Pickett Custom Cabinets/Jeffrey Masonry #98 Swartz while the Xtreme Motorsports/Schram Brothers Excavating #21 MasterSbilt of Steve Moore of Scio was third. Crossing the line in fourth would be Jordan Wright from Toledo in the Newport Candy Shoppe/Cub’s Cave #32 Swartz and completing the top five finishers was the Cornwell Tools #5 Rayburn of Danny Altom from Lebanon in fifth.
The Sportsman main event was entertaining in the early goings. Several drivers found themselves battling for the win but in the end Brian Goetz of Lyons would secure the lead. Goetz would eventually establish a healthy interval over the rest of the field and would go on to win his first race of the season in his #38 Rayburn.
The Bullygang.com/Wirth Wireless #33 Jet of Lebanon’s Phil Housworth was second followed by Brian Brown of Portland in his #10 entry in third. Grabbing fourth would be the Ye Olde Pizza/Flatt Muffler #88 Rayburn of Brian Winkler from Newberg and crossing the stripe in fifth was Lebanon’s Clyde Rood in the Hackney Racing #0.
A great Street Stock race occurred right around the halfway mark. David Cronk, Bricen James, and Jody Tanner would all find themselves racing to the front of the pack in close quarter action. With lots of side by side racing the race eventually would come down to Cronk and James. The two would battle hard with only a couple of laps to go with Cronk using a lapped car as a pick to secure the lead over James. Portland’s David Cronk would go on to win the race for his fourth win of 2013 in the Metro Services/Gassner Trucking #29 Camaro.
Bricen James of Albany was the runner-up in his James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body #13 Monte Carlo while third would go to the Tim’s Automotive/Dick Kludte Trucking #27 of Bill Allison from Dallas. The Jody’s Nothin’ But Fun Bar & Grill #36 of Portland driver Jody Tanner was fourth with Doug Scott of Sandy in his #83 was fifth.
Don Croy dominated the Mini Truck classification to win his fourth race of the year. The Prineville pilot would take the lead on lap five and would not look back to put his Carson Oil/Guy’s Automotive and Lube/Prineville Sign and Banner #24 Toyota back in the winner’s circle.
The #17 of Bob Dieble was second while Alvadore’s Peter Haag was third in his #26 machine. The balance of the top five would include The Guy’s Automotive and Lube/Prineville 76 #SIX Datsun of Kenny Keefer from Prineville in fourth and the Progressive Tile and Marble #12 Mazda of Jefferson’s Jennifer Robbins in fifth.
Next weekend the Willamette Speedway will have the Karts in action once again for their fifth race of the season on Friday June 28th. On Saturday the 29th the 1/3-mile will host the fifty-lap Topless Showdown for the DIRTcar Super Late Models while the IMCA Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks will also be on the card.
