On Saturday June 15th the Willamette Speedway once again provided thrilling action for the latest installment of the 2013 season. A full card of classes were on tap which included the DIRTcar Super Late Models, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks.

In DIRTcar Super Late Model action it was a bit of a caution filled affair. Brian Cronk of Portland led early in his Metro Services/Big Sky Landscaping #29 Rocket before being overtaken by Trevor Glaser of Tangent. Defending track champ Glaser is having a dominating campaign so far winning four of the first six shows including the last three straight in his Bayer Crop Science/Farmland Tractor Supply/Ground and Water #2 Trak-Star.

A late caution would result in a green-white-checkered finish and an opportunity for anyone that could muster one last effort to try and overtake Glaser. Glaser would have no issue on the final restart and went on to continue his impressive win total of five features won including the last four consecutive shows.

The J&S Farms #37 Victory Circle of Bend’s Rob Mayea finished a respectable second place followed by Brownsville driver Russ Sell in his 99.9 KRKT Cricket County/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center #50 Swartz in third. Earning the fourth spot would be Brady Sell of Salem in the Left Coast Motorsports/106.3 KLOO Timeless Rock #4 Swartz while fifth was the Sureflow Concrete Pumping/Swing Construction #13 Swartz of Sodaville chauffeur Tony Brakeall.

Making his return to the Willamette Speedway former champion Leo Hillyer was ultra quick in the Super Sport feature. It looked as if the Hillyer’s Mid-City Ford #47 Swartz was on its way to victory lane until disaster would strike for the leader. Hillyer would get caught up in a tangle with a lapped car with just five laps to go. Finishing the rest of the distance off to win his first race of the year would be Clay Debban of Shedd in the Brownsville Calf Ranch #84 Rayburn.

Steve Moore of Scio was second in crate-engine powered Xtreme Motorsports/Schram Brothers Excavating/The Woodshed Bar & Grill #21 MasterSbilt with third place being captured by Randy Barley of Albany in the Dennis Automotive #13B Rayburn. Albany’s Bob Jeffrey would finish fourth in the Pickett Custom Cabinets/Jeffrey Masonry #98 Swartz followed by Sean Cronk of Portland in the Metro Services #29 entry.

Driving the Glen Hackney Racing #1 Pierce entry Brian Smith of Albany earned his second victory of the season but his first in the Sportsman division. Smith led practically the entire distance finishing with a decent interval after second and third place had mechanical issues on the last lap. It marked the second time that car owner Glen Hackney has had one of his cars win. The other was when Clyde Rood picked up a victory earlier in the campaign.

Ending up finishing in second place was last week’s winner Phil Housworth of Lebanon in the Bullygang.com/Wirth Wireless #33 Jet while behind him in third was the #2G entry of Brad Gentry from the Lafayette area. Crossing the line in fourth was the Ye Olde Pizza Shoppe/Flatt Muffler #88 Rayburn of Brian Winkler from Newberg and the Marson Transport #13 Port-City machine of Jeff Marson from Molalla would complete the top five as he would finish fifth.

Street Stock ace Bricen James of Albany has had a phenomenal 2013 season and last Saturday night his sensational year continues to bring success. James, in the James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals #13 Monte Carlo, got up front early and didn’t look back. He would receive a brief challenge from Portland’s Jody Tanner in the Jody’s Nothing But Fun Bar & Grill #36 mount but either then that he walked away from the rest of the field. James would earn his third win of the season now placing him level with David Cronk of Portland for most wins this year in the class.

Jody Tanner would hold on to second place with the Metro Services/Gassner Trucking #29 Camaro of David Cronk crossing the stripe in third. Michael Byram of Lebanon in the Western Metal Fabrication #01 Camaro ended his evening in fourth followed by the #55 machine of D.W. Northy from Walton.

In the Mini Truck division it was the city of Prineville being represented. Despite a low car count the two entries of Don Croy and Kenny Keefer put on an entertaining feature for the fans. The Guy’s Automotive and Lube/Prineville 76 #SIX Datsun of Kenny Keefer would eventually win it for his second triumph of the season followed by the Carson Oil/Guy’s Automotive and Lube/Prineville Sign and Banner #24 Toyota of Croy in second.

The Willamette Speedway is back in action on Tuesday June 18th for the return of the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout. The Sportsman division will be the support class and the races are expected to start around 6:30 PM. Friday June 21st will have the Karts in action for what should be another great race for that program. On Saturday June 22nd will be the Hot Rod Betties Fast 50 Night. Classes in action include the DIRTcar Super Late Models, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
