Lebanon, Oregon- It’s that time of the year again at the Willamette Speedway. It is time for the historic Strawberry Cup which has taken place for decades at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval. This year will offer a new twist to this yearly tradition. The event will take place over the course of Friday May 31st and Saturday June 1st.

“Strawberry Cup is a big deal at Willamette,” said Chris Nofziger, General Manager of Willamette Speedway, “this is a very old event with deep roots. We’re proud to continue the tradition of this prestigious race.”

Friday May 31st will kick the weekend off with the first visit by the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region. The night will mark the first time they are in action this year and will be the first time that Willamette has hosted a season opener for the touring series. Also on the card will be the DIRTcar Super Late Models for preliminary action which will consist of qualifying and heat races.

Saturday June 1st will be the finale as the DIRTcar Super Late Models return for main events. Other classes on hand will be the IMCA Modifieds, Super Sport, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks.

In DIRTcar Super Late Model action Trevor Glaser is still the only repeat winner with two victories in 2013. Joey Tanner and Russ Sell join him in the win column with one win each. In IMCA Modified competition there have been four different winners in as many races. Mark Carrell, Kyle Yeack, Jeffrey Rivers, and Dustin Dittman have all visited victory lane so far this year.

The Super Sports have yet to see a repeat winner since the class was reintroduced this year. Gil Pickett, Bob Jeffrey, and Brian Smith have so far been the only victors. The Street Stock division has been dominated by the likes of David Cronk. Cronk has won three main events while Bricen James is the only other winner this year. In the Mini Truck classification Kenny Keefer and Don Croy have each won a feature in the division.
