Lebanon, Oregon- Opening night at Willamette Speedway on Saturday April 20th saw a terrific battle for the win. At evening’s end Todd Miller of Albany would earn the victory to start the year out. It would also be a clean sweep for the Linn Benton Insurance/James Gang Pizza #00 Boyd entry.
Todd Miller would share the front row with Lebanon’s Phil Housworth and the two would battle side-by-side for several laps. A caution would come around lap six which would give Houseworth in his Bullygang.com/Wirth Wireless #33 Jet the lead. Housworth would maintain this lead until he would get a little sideways on the exit of a corner which gave Miller a bit of an opening.
Miller would make the pass and from then on control the lead. He would eventually build a healthy margin and cruise on to pace the field for the remaining laps.
“The track was really nice it was very smooth a lot better than last year’s first race,” commented Miller, “this was the first time in a long time that I have had a clean sweep it feel nice. That was a great race between Phil and I he was pretty quick tonight.”
Housworth would finish in second place and earning third would be Brian Brown of Portland in his #10 entry. The balance of the top five consisted of Jefferson driver Loren Kruesi in the Art Plus Signs and Designs/Veterans Helping Veterans/Doc’s Photos #31 RCR by DeClutch in fourth and Salem’s Dave Miller in the Rufus Fight Company/Mossy Oak #22W Nova in fifth. In addition to winning the main Todd Miller would win the trophy dash and heat race.
The Sportsman return to Willamette Speedway Saturday April 27th for their second race of 2013. Other classes that will be in hand include the DIRTcar Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, and Street Stocks. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
