Lebanon, Oregon- The wait is nearly over for fans of Willamette Speedway. Friday April 19th and Saturday the 20th will get the 2013 season started with two nights of action. Friday will be the Season Opener for Karts and Saturday will have DIRTcar Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks all in action.
“Everyone is excited for the new season,” commented Chris Nofziger, General Manager of Willamette Speedway, “the car counts should be good and the track should be fast and smooth all night. Don’t forget to come out Friday for the Karts because that produces some great racing too.”
Last year’s season opener produced some memorable action. Casey Vitale put on a good show with Trent Elliott in the DIRTcar Super Late Model division with Vitale earning the victory in the end. Mark Wauge made the long haul from Southern Oregon to win the first Modified race last year. Brian Winkler scored a big win in the Sportsman classification in a caution filled feature.
In the Street Stocks hometown driver J.J. Irvine held off the field on a late race restart after longtime leader Adam Walker succumbed to a flat tire late in the race. The winner of the first Mini Truck event was eventual champ Mark Von Sild over the competition. The Super Sports make their long awaited debut back to the historic 1/3-mile clay oval after last competing at the venue in 2010.
General admission to the Friday Kart race event will be FREE of charge. Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $30.00. The pit gates open up around 4:00 PM and racing is scheduled to begin around 6:45.
